I get that being able to build entire rooms at once is supposed to be convenient and save time, but if it makes removing stuff this much more frustrating I'd rather go back to the previous games for building.

I had to build fences round the stairs, which is really strange looking when theres nothing holding up the fence. But now, I had a really hard time removing the flooring on the second floor to get the open space I wanted. it wouldn't let me place any new tiles down to replace them, instead the only option I had was to add a new room, which was the wrong shape for the house and I ended up messing up the entire floorplan trying to get the floor tiles into the shape I wanted, and even then I couldn't get it to look the way I wanted. As I can recall, this have been really easy to achieve in previous versions of The Sims. But when I used the sledgehammer on the landing, it removed all the tiles in the hallway. I knew the sledgehammer tool could delete single tiles, I'd already tried that earlier in the garden.

I was doing the floor in the landing hallway and wanted to see how it would look if I removed some of the tiles running parallel to the stairs. I'm trying to build my first house in TS4 and I'm still learning about the changes to the build system. This might be a stupid question, but I've been trying to work this out in game for ages and I'm getting really frustrated.
